Singh faces a keen contest from Congress’ Rita Bahuguna Joshi, but several late defections from the Congress camp have bolstered BJP. Congress district president Neeraj Bora who was playing a key role in the party’s campaign walked out of the party last week and announced support for Singh.
Bora who is a doctor and contested as the Congress candidate from Lucknow-North in the 2012 assembly elections along with his father former MLA, DP Bora enjoys much goodwill in the state capital. It is Pankaj who is spearheading the campaign on his father’s behalf .
The 35-year-old is also the state BJP general secretary and moves out of his home early in the day crisscrossing the city, be it attending a ‘mahila mandal baithak’, meeting government employees associations, college goers, or attending a CII conference to explain his party’s agenda for the future. Pankaj remains the face of his father’s campaign.
