Lok Sabha Polls 2014: Six arrested in Assam for rigging of votes
GUWAHATI: Six people, including a polling officer, were arrested in Assam after a local television channel showed videos of rigging at the Bornijor polling station in the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat, which went to the polls on April 24.

“The presiding officer along with other officers was arrested,” additional chief electoral officer Assam RC Jain said. The Election Commission (EC) has ordered re-polling in the booth on April 28.

The visual showed a village defence party personnel casting votes for several voters in random. The BJP and other parties have moved the EC demanding repoll.

Assam CM Tarun Gogoi said: “Some incidents of rigging might have taken place. Had there been large-scale rigging, polling agents of different political parties would have lodged a complaint.”
