Lok Sabha polls 2014: Harish Rawat's wife served EC notices for model code violation

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat's wife and Congress nominee from Haridwar seat Renuka Rawat has been served two back-to-back notices by the EC for violating the model code of conduct by allegedly holding a dance performance at a public meeting and advertising her website on social media without permission.

The latest notice was issued to her yesterday for a dance show staged at a public meeting which she was to address on Sunday.

Assistant Returning Officer B S Dhanik said the notice was issued to Renuka after taking suo motu cognisance of newspaper reports and the matter is being investigated by SDM Luxor.

The dance performance was staged at the public meeting to pull the crowds. Currency notes were also allegedly showered by some Congress workers over the women performers.

A notice had also been issued to Renuka and BJP candidate from Haridwar Ramesh Pokhariyal Nishank on Sunday for issuing advertisements of their websites on social media without the permission of the Returning Officer.

According to the Returning Officer, the two leaders had issued advertisements of their websites on the social media without his permission which is mandatory.

The two leaders were not available for comment.
