KOLKATA: Even though CPM Polit Bureau and Congress high command are weighing proposals from their Bengal units for poll alliance, Trinamool Congress is not too worried about this mainly because 2014 LS elections showed CPM led in just 26 and Congress in 29 of the total 294 assembly seats in the state.

In 8 of the 20 districts, CPM was nowhere in the picture. As per results of 2014 elections, CPM was ahead of Trinamool in Jalpaiguri assembly seat and in three assembly seats of Alipurduar,Kumargunj and Nagrakata under newly formed Alipurduar district. I n Murshidabad, CPM was ahead of it’s rivals in assembly constituencies of Nabagram, Jangipur, Murshidabad, Bhagabangola, Raninagar and Jalangi.

In the districts of Purulia, Birbhum and Cooch Behar, the Marxists were ahead of Trinamool Congress in one seat each. The Congress, on the other hand, was leading in 29 assembly seats which are located in just 6 of the 20 districts. BJP led in just 24 assembly segments if 2014 parliamentary poll results are concerned.
