The Loka Sabha on Friday approved a bill to amend the Labour Laws Act, 1988, the second crucial labour reform bill to be passed in both the houses in a week.

NEW DELHI: The Loka Sabha on Friday approved a bill to amend the Labour Laws Act, 1988, the second crucial labour reform bill to be passed in both the houses in a week.

The bill, which was passed in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, will simplify the procedures of filing returns for small firms after its gets the President’s assent and is notified. However, the most controversial of the three bills, proposing changes in the Factories Act, 1948, moved in the last session is yet to be taken up.

As part of the amendment to the Labour Laws Act, 1988, the ministry plans that firms with 10-40 employees will now be exempted from provisions under labour laws that mandate them to furnish various aspects as against establishments with up to 19 employees.
