AJMER: Supporters of the Aam Admi Party here were in for a shock when their party candidate Ajay Somani withdrew his nomination papers on the last day of withdrawal of nominations on Saturday. These workers were active since the Anna Hazare movement and felt left in the lurch.

With Somani stepping down, both BJP and Congress are changing their strategies on the new voting equations that has arisen, especially in the city limits. The quitting of the AAP candidate will certainly change the equation as the margin of victory will be in thousands, poll watchers said.

Irate AAP workers gathered in Vaishalli Nagar and staged a protest on Sunday following the withdrawal. They called Somani, a chartered accountant, a "traitor" and on Saturday evening some AAP supporters tried to spray black ink on his face when he was returning home. "If he was not interested then he should not have asked ticket from the party," said Rajendra Singh Heera, a party worker.
