NEW DELHI: The Lok Sabha continued to be on a fight-and-work mode for the second consecutive day. On the one side, the Congress and allies forced two adjournments and staged a walkout demanding PM Modi’s apology for his “conspiracy charge” against Congress leaders including Manmohan Singh, and on the other, the House passed the Immovable Property (Amendment) Bill by a voice vote during the post-lunch session.

The Bill, moved by Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri, amended the regulations governing compensation payable for acquisition of immovable property by the Centre for defence and security purposes.

The minister assured members that the compensation was meant for an interim period and solely for the purpose of determining the date of compensation to be computed.

In the morning, Congress and allies forced an adjournment by raising slogans demanding PM’s apology for his remarks against Manmohan Singh during the Gujarat poll campaign.

Even though the zero hour continued for a while, BJP member Poonam Mahajan who raised the issue of the recent murder of a Yuva Morch activist in J&K, intensified the sparring between the Opposition and BJP benches leading to another adjournment.

In between, BJD members protested what they called the “Centre going back” from its earlier promise of setting up a tribunal to look into the Orissa-Chhattisgarh dispute over sharing of Mahanadi water.
