The epicentre of the earthquake was 83 kilometres east of Kathmandu and around six major aftershocks were reported in the region.
Tremors were felt in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, Assam, Odisha, Sikkim and West Bengal and adjoining areas. 17 people are reported to have been killed in India, with 15 deaths in Bihar, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said.
"The House expresses its deep sorrow over the loss of lives and conveys heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and wish speedy recovery of the injured," she said.
As a mark of respect for the departed, the House stood in silence for a brief while.
