A total of over 76,000 motor accident and insurance claim cases were today settled by the Lok Adalat conducted in courts across the country.

NEW DELHI: A total of over 76,000 motor accident and insurance claim cases were today settled by the Lok Adalat conducted in courts across the country in which settlement of over Rs 166 crore was awarded.

The National Lok Adalat, which was organised today under the patronage of Chief Justice of India Justice H L Dattu, was held in all courts at all levels from the taluk courts to the districts courts, high courts and the Supreme Court.

As per National Legal Services Authority (NALSA), the Lok Adalat resolved pending and pre-litigation matters too, with 24 cases settled in Supreme Court by a bench of Justices Abhay Manohar Sapre and Amitava Roy.

The insurance companies and claimants who participated in Lok Adalat were able to arrive at final settlements worth Rs 166 crores and more, the NALSA said in a release.
