Lockdown partially eased in Assam

Transport Department has taken initiatives to resume public transportation through its corporation, Assam State Public Transport Corporation (ASTC) after relaxation of lockdown guidelines.

GUWAHATI: Barring the four orange districts, lockdown was partially eased in Assam on Monday, facilitating economic activities and movement of people.

Transport Department has taken initiatives to resume public transportation through its corporation, Assam State Public Transport Corporation (ASTC) after relaxation of lockdown guidelines.

Around 100 city buses were given for operation in Guwahati city as well as 214 buses were deployed for inter-district operation across the state.


Joint enforcement teams were deployed to monitor the movement of buses and to ensure that more than 50% seats are not filled in any bus and that small passenger vehicles do not carry more than two passengers. Passengers in standing mode were strictly prohibited, whereas online ticketing and contact details of passengers were kept for record.

Transport department plans to add 100 more city buses in Guwahati on Tuesday.

The department announced that transport Department will also facilitate the stranded people of Assam to return from various North East states. The Department is also coordinating with governments of North Eastern states to facilitate their people stranded in Assam to return to their respective states.
