Live India says 'sting' in good faith
Replying to the notice issued by the ministry, the channel said the sting was "done in good faith" and that its "intentions were not wrong", ministry sources said.
Replying to the notice issued by the ministry, the channel said the sting was "done in good faith" and that its "intentions were not wrong", ministry sources said.
The channel filed its reply on Friday, complying with the deadline set by the ministry, the sources said.
They also said the channel's reply will be examined by a committee of senior ministry officials and then by Information and Broadcasting Minister PR Dasmunsi, who will take into account the recommendations of the officials.
The "expose" by the channel had depicted Uma Khurana, a Daryaganj school teacher, as being "part" of a sex racket involving students. It led to public fury and violence in the streets.
But the "expose" fell apart due to lack of evidence and police claimed the teacher was framed by reporter Prakash Singh, his "associate" Rashmi Singh and businessman Virender Arora.
Asked about the government's line of action in the case, Dasmunsi had said the authorities will take appropriate action under the law after receiving the channel's reply.
"The ministry has already sent it a notice under the Cable Television Network Act. After receiving the reply, whatever necessary action needs to be taken under the Act, will be taken," he told reporters.
