'Like criminals, chained us…' Plaintiff in LA fed immigration lawsuit describes detention horror
On Monday (August 4), attorneys and plaintiffs involved in the case temporarily barring U.S. government agents from making immigration-related arrests in Los Angeles without probable cause held a press conference to acknowledge the court’s decision. One of the plaintiffs in the lawsuit, Pedro Vasquez Perdomo, said he was targeted by immigration officials on his way to work and described living in fear since his release. “I was simply standing at a bus stop, waiting to get to work like I do every day," said Perdoma. "Then, without warning, several unmarked cars showed up. Men jumped out, grabbed me and my co-workers, and took us away like we were criminals." A California judge last month blocked the Trump administration from racially profiling immigrants as it seeks deportation targets and from denying immigrants' right to access to lawyers during their detention.
