PATNA : The Left parties on Monday gave a call for a six-hour Bihar bandh on August 20, the day when CITU and other Left trade unions called a country-wide general strike.

The 10 am to 4 pm Bihar bandh was called to protest against 'unbearable' price rise, crisis in agriculture sector, 'rampant irregularities' in BPL lists, blackmarketing of ration and kerosene and waterlogging in the state capital, a CPI release said here.

Senior leaders of the CPI, CPI(M), RSP, Forward Bloc and Bharatiya Janvadi Forward Block met here this afternoon and appealed to the people to make the shut-down a success.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Jabbar Alam and Ramnaresh Pandey of CPI, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthy, Sarangdhar Paswan of CPI(M) and Wakil Thakur (Forward Bloc).

Essential services have been exempted from the purview of the bandh.

The country-wide general strike has been called to protest against rising inflation and press the demand for strengthening the public distribution system and protecting workers in the unorganised sector.
