Left parties to stage protests over the Syrian issue
CHENNAI: Left parties in Tamil Nadu today announced staging state-wide protests on September five to condemn the US for its proposed military intervention in Syria.

A joint statement from the state secretaries of CPI (M) and CPI, G Ramakrishnan and D Pandian, said the state councils of the respective parties "condemn" the US for its proposed military strikes on sovereign nations.

They said on the lines of carrying out attacks in Iraq in 2003 over weapons of mass destruction that had left the country "devastated," US and its allies were now embarking on a similar attempt against Syria, amidst reports that chemical weapons were used against anti-government protesters recently.

The parties said that charges of using chemical weapons have not been proved yet.

The two Left parties will stage state-wide protests on September five at the district headquarters against US "imperialism," they added.
