CHENNAI: Members of Left parties and a Manithaneya Makkal Katchi MLA today displayed placards against the Centre in the Tamil Nadu assembly, supporting demands of trade unions on a day-long nationwide strike to protest against changes in labour laws and privatisation of PSUs.

Later, they stated a walkout and began shouting slogans against the Union government in the corridors.

Earlier, soon after question hour, they demanded that a resolution be passed against the Centre, reflecting the issues being taken up in today's nation-wide stir.

Left members caught the House by suprise when they stood up holding placards targeting the Central government as the House was witnessing heated debate between DMK members and Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani over an issue.

"Do not become a stooge of corporates," "Do not impair 100 day employment scheme," "Rein in price rise," Give up Road Safety Bill," were some of the slogans written on the placards.

After Speaker P Dhanapal told them it was not proper and went against the rules, they trooped out of the House along with MMK member Jawahirullah. While on their way out, they vociferously raised slogans against the Centre.
