Actor S Devan, who announced his exit from the BJP a day earlier, said on Monday that he quit the party as he was not getting enough “space” to function within it.

Thiruvananthapuram: Actor S Devan, who a day ago announced his exit from the BJP, said on Monday that he left the saffron party as he was not getting the "space" to function in it.

At the same time, he said that the BJP was a highly misunderstood party and it had no communal agenda, though it has some leaders who create problems.

Devan also claimed that he had not joined the BJP for any seat in the elections, rather he wanted to change the public view about the party, which was "viewed with fear" by minorities and even some among the Hindu community.

Speaking to reporters, he claimed that he could have changed the BJP's image among the minorities, especially the Muslim community with whom he has close ties, and wanted a position like that of "propaganda secretary."

"But I was made a vice president with no responsibilities. I was later removed from the post without giving me any communication and the position was given to R Sreelekha. That is the kind of neglect I suffered in the party," he further claimed.

"I helped during the 2024 LS poll campaign and even during the 2026 assembly elections. But I was not told what my responsibilities were in the party," he added.

As a result, he had been thinking of quitting the party for the last several months and has also taken steps to reactivate his political organisation, Kerala People's Party (KPP), Devan said.

He said that he has already spoken to its former members and had taken steps two months ago to reactivate the party.

"I will be active in the political field," he asserted.

He said that he will not join the Congress or CPI(M) as he does not have any faith in them and will not join the Bharath Dharma Jana Sena (BDJS), the political wing of the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam, as he does not believe in any caste.

He contended that currently all parties in India are caste or religion-based, but not in his party.
