Left allies CPI & RSP support Meira Kumar
KOLKATA: The non-BJP Opposition Front’s Presidential candidate Meira Kumar has found support from two small but significant Left allies in Bengal –– the CPI and RSP –– who had refused to vote for Pranab Mukherjee during the 2012 presidential elections. Although CPI has just one MLA in the Bengal Legislative Assembly (WBLA) and RSP has three legislators, the four votes will certainly help Kumar.

Kumar will visit WBLA on Tuesday when these minor Left parties are expected to officially inform her about their decision to vote . CPI Bengal unit secretary Probodh Panda told ET on Tuesday that “we did not vote for Pranab Mukherjee in 2012 because we considered him as one of the few important politicians who worked hard to introduce neo-liberal economic policy in our country.”
