Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy launched the e-governance initiative at Yelahanka on Thursday. “We have begun with the LL and the same applicant will come back asking for a driving licence (DL) after a month. By then, we will have introduced online applications for the issuance of DL too,“ Joint Transport Commissioner (e-governance) J Jnanendra Kumar told ET. The LL is issued in physi cal form as well as online.

The Transport Department has take up the e-governance project on a pilot basis at Yelahanka and will extend it progressively to other RTOs. “We will introduce it first in all RTOs in Bengaluru which will take about six months. By the end of this calendar year, we are aiming to cover all 59 RTOs in the state,“ Kumar said.

The department wants to bring several functions online and is in the process of purchasing computers and training the staffers.

The National Informatics Centre has developed the software for the initiative.
