Leaders demand probe into IPL's financial transactions

Cutting across party lines, several leaders today demanded a probe into IPL's financial transactions.

NEW DELHI: Cutting across party lines, several leaders today demanded a probe into IPL's financial transactions.

"I am not talking about any individual. I am talking about total IPL. Let there be a thorough probe into it," Minister of Heavy Industries Vilasrao Deshmukh told reporters outside Parliament.

The Minister was asked if NCP chief Sharad Pawar was backing Lalit Modi in the IPL controversy.

"Whatever has been promised by our Finance Minister in the House yesterday, let it go on and let there be total transparency (in IPL)," the Minister added.

Asked if there was a witch-hunt going on against some individuals involved in the issue, Deshmukh said, "there is no reason."

Speaking on the same lines, BJP Leader Prakash Javdekar said, "I will not comment on individuals but there should be a full inquiry on the issue and the truth should come out and appropriate action should be taken against the guilty."

He added there were reports that a senior Minister had called upon some businessmen interested in bidding for IPL franchisee and threatened them not to do so.

JD(U) Chief Sharad Yadav said he had met the Prime Minister today to demand a stop to the "vulgar display" of cheerleaders in the IPL.

"Bar dancers were banned but now they are encouraging cheerleaders and naked dance. What is this. This should stop," he said.
