LDF will not reopen bars shut by UDF government: Sitaram Yechury

KOCHI: The liquor policy of Left Democratic Front (LDF) is what the party general secretary Sitaram Yechury had explained, said Kerala opposition leader VS Achuthanandan.

CPI(M) general secretary had said that if voted to power the LDF will not reopen the bars that were closed by the United Democratic Front (UDF) government. VS Achuthanandan explained that the Left Front’s policy is to bring down liquor consumption in stages. The Left Front had said in its manifesto that liquor will be phased out in the stages, V S Achuthanandan said in his Facebook post.

A separate campaign will be launched to promote abstinence. He said that the UDF is trying to create confusion with regard to the liquor policy of the Left Front. KPCC president VM Sudheeran said on Friday LDF is groping in the dark on its liquor policy. He said that polit bureau member Pinarayi Vijayan’s stand on liquor is different from that of Sitaram Yechury.
