LDF walks out from assembly over attack on CPI-M workers
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI-M led LDF Opposition members in Kerala today walked out of the assembly in protest against government's refusal to hold a discussion on alleged police inaction on BJP-RSS workers who attacked CPI(M) activists and their homes in Kozhikode district.

Seeking notice for an adjournment motion on incidents of such attacks at Koilandi in Kozhikode district, K Dasan (CPI-M) charged the government with adopting a "soft" approach towards the crime.

Denying the charge, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said police are investigating the cases impartially, irrespective of whether the person who committed the crime was from BJP, CPI-M or Congress.

He pointed out that the recent clashes in Koilandi between CPI(M) and BJP were sequel to the murder of a BJP worker by a CPI(M) activist in the area in 2012.

So far 42 BJP and CPI-M workers have been arrested in connection with about 10 cases of clashes and attacks, he said.

Not satisfied with the government response, LDF members led by their leader V S Achuthanandan walked out, alleging that government has completely failed to prevent "criminal activites" of BJP-RSS workers and their attack on CPI-M cadres.
