Lawyers walk to get a hearing beating traffic

A senior advocate told CJI JS Khehar that he walked all the way to Supreme Court from Nizamuddin amid a mass traffic snarl due to Delhi Police decision to block certain arterial routes because of final dress rehearsal of Republic Day parade. Praising his act, the CJI said: “All this is in aid of the Constitution.” Needless to say, the advocate got what he wanted from the court — a later rather than an early hearing!!



Powers of the healing water
The magic of healing water is back. Following All India United Democratic Front chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal’s footsteps, party’s Katlichera ( Assam) MLA Sujam Uddin Laskar has started distributing healing water in his constituency. The holy water with divine effect was a crowd puller during Ajmal’s campaigning. The MLA is hoping for the same luck this time.



Annoying speaker
J&K assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta doesn’t like to be called as Sadr-e-Riyasat. Legislator Engineer Rasheed calls him by the pre-1965 term. The reference annoys the Speaker who repeatedly asks Rasheed not to use the term. “But I am elevating your stature,” Rasheed replies. “But, I don’t need any elevation in status,” resists speaker.



Bat-tle ready
As February 4 elections draw near, Punjab Police has a new collection of seizures. At the various check points the police have stacked up scores of baseball bats seized from boots of cars passing through. Policemen remark that these are commonly kept by people to pick up fights.
