Former Tripura chief minister, Manik Sarkar alleged that there is lawlessness and misgovernance prevailing in the state under the BJP led government.

Sarkar, who is a politburo member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), said since June 2019, 10 people died of lynching while five died in police custody. “Chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb has assured that political violence against opponents will stop however that did not happen.”

He added that there were over 200 physical attacks on opposition party men, mainly CPI-M workers and supporters. “While 152 shops and houses were attacked, 17 party offices were also attacked.”


He added that People’s Relief Volunteers (PRV) while they were carrying out various programmes against the prevention of the Covid-19 pandemic were attacked.

The PRV, a Left backed organisation. Sarkar said, “We have met Governor

Ramesh Bais and the Chief Minister urged to stop attacks, however nothing happened.”
