Latur in Maharashtra to get water by railway tankers: Suresh Prabhu
PUNE: Union railway minister Suresh Prabhu today announced that Latur in Maharashtra, will get water by railway tankers. With all the water sources of the city being dried up due to drought of last two years, water scarcity has worsened in Latur from February end.

"We are making arrangements for water tanker train for Latur and its movement will be organised as advised by the state. Lets remember them on Holi," tweeted Prabhu.

The district magistrate has already made section 144 of CrPC applicable within the premises of water filling points on the outskirts of the city as water distribution had led to fights.

The water being carried by big tankers to the six water points on the city's outskirts, where it is filtered and filled up in smaller tankers to supply to the city. These water points became the battle ground, with alleged involvement of some political entities.

The local administration is yet to know, which of the few options it had suggested, have been accepted by the government.
