Large metros contribute 11% to the number of total active cases in India

These are still early days, considering that the virus is still raging across the country. However, these numbers suggest that the large metros of India might be on their way to see a plateauing of cases.

On Wednesday, New Delhi recorded 90% recovery rate, the first metro in the country to achieve this. The city’s active Covid-19 cases add up to only 7% of its total cases. Other cities such as Chennai and Mumbai are also witnessing similar trends.

The big metros only contribute 11% to the number of total active cases in the country now. The death rate, however, remains a concern — Mumbai still has a fatality rate of over 5%, compared with around 2% for other metros.


These are still early days, considering that the virus is still raging across the country. However, these numbers suggest that the large metros of India might be on their way to see a plateauing of cases. Divya Rajagopal brings out the numbers that matter:

Total number of cases in India stands at 32,86,512 as of 26 August, 2020. Total recovered cases stand at 2,506,724 accounting for a 76% recovery rate. Total 60, 267 deaths were reported. There are 719,521 active cases in the country.
