Lanka to use India-made transparent ballot boxes during polls
COLOMBO: For the first time, Sri Lanka will introduce transparent ballot boxes imported from India in select polling centres instead of the traditional wooden ones to ensure free and fair polls.

The ballot boxes were imported from India and they are used as a pilot project, the Lankan Election Secretariat said.

The transparent ballot boxes will be used at the polling centres in the Northern Province at the Provincial Council election tomorrow.

They are also to be used in 46 polling centres in the Matale Municipality area, Colombo Page reported today.

The ballot boxes are to be delivered to the polling centres today under heavy police protection, the report said.

Lankan police have decided to hand over the security of the counting centres to the elite Special Task Force (STF).
