Land deeds given to migrants from Bangladesh who came in 1964

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh today handed 'patta' (deed of rights for land) to 134 families which had migrated from Bangladesh (then the East Pakistan) in 1964 and settled down at Mana camp under Man Nagar Panchayat near here.

Permanent titles for 99 years were given to these families for the plots of land where their houses stand today, an official release said.

Singh said, at the function at his official residence, that the continuing label of `migrants' must be very painful for these families.

The state was providing them permanent land title with the aim of removing this label, he said, which would give them a feeling of emotional connection with the land and the state.

As per the official release, titles have been given for commercial purpose at nominal land revenue of Rs 1, and the families can build, legally, house-cum-shops.

The migrants were given house-cum-shop units after they arrived here, but did not possess permanent deeds of land rights until now.

Now, every family officially owns 369 sq ft of land.
