Lalu Yadav demands ban on Aarakshan; action against film makers

He said reservation is "our birth right and these people do not want Dalit and backward people to come in the main stream."

NEW DELHI: Terming Amitabh Bachchan starrer Aarakshan as anti-Dalit, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad today demanded immediate ban on its screening and strict action against the film makers for "creating unrest in the society."

Without naming Censor Board, Lalu also sought action against those who have passed the film.

"The film is anti-Dalit and against the backward communities... it should be banned immediately and strict action should be taken against the people behind the movie," Lalu told reporters outside Parliament.

Banned in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh, Prakash Jha's Aarakshan was released today in other states.

Venting his ire against popular film star Amitabh Bachchan, RJD MP said "Amitabh Bachchan is the most disliked actor in the country. The film involving Prakash Jha and Amitabh Bachchan is aimed to create unrest in the society. These people have distorted the Constitution made by Baba Saheb Ambedkar."

Seeking immediate action against those involved in the film, he said "Strict action should be taken againt them. Government should take action against the film makers. Those who have encouraged this film, those who have passed it (Censor)."
