Lalit Modi summoned by Chennai Crime Branch

Lalit Modi and six others have been asked to appear before the Chennai Crime Branch following complaint by BCCI secretary N Srinivisan.

NEW DELHI: Suspended Indian Premier League chief Lalit Modi and six others have been asked to appear before the Chennai Crime Branch following complaint by BCCI secretary N Srinivisan.

Srinivasan had in October lodged a police complaint against Modi alleging criminal misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 470 crore mainly in allotting media rights and free commercial rights.

In his first major interview since his exit from IPL, Modi had recently defended himself of any wrong doing and said his ouster as the IPL boss was part of a witch-hunt by people who are "jealous of his success".

After Srinivasan's complaint, Chennai Police had said they were awaiting some "crucial" documents from the BCCI for taking their investigation to the next level in the Rs 470 crore misappropriation case against Modi.

"We have asked for two-three more crucial documents. They (BCCI) have promised to give it in three or four days. Once we receive these documents, we will go through it and take the investigation to the next level," Police Commissioner T Rajendran told reporters.

Asked whether Modi would be summoned, Rajendran said, "He (Modi) is out of the country. Let's go through the documents first. Because the entire complaint is in three parts and various people are involved in it. We will prioritise and see who can be summoned first."
