Lalit Modi row: Vasundhara Raje dials Amit Shah, explains her position

NEW DELHI: A day after getting caught into the web of controversies, Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje is learnt to have spoken to BJP president Amit Shah to clarify her association with Lalit Modi.

"Raje has been in touch with party leadership to explain her position," said a source close to Shah.

Moments after the controversy broke out on Tuesday, Raje had come forward to acknowledge her family association with Modi, but she had feigned ignorance of her signing a legal paper to support Modi’s application for UK residency.

Unlike the controversy surrounding Sushma Swaraj over which BJP brass — Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Venkaiah Naidu and Nitin Gadkari — and RSS jumped to her defence, Raje has not got a similar backing from the party. However, party leaders sought to downplay this incongruity, saying that Raje has already clarified her association with Modi’s family. They said Raje’s position remained safe at the moment.
