Labour minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar has written to the ministry of statistics and programme implementation to release his MPLADS fund of Rs one crore for 2020-21 to the PM relief fund for prevention and control of COVID-19 in the country following an appeal by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla.

"I, hereby, give my consent for release of Rs one crore from my next MPLADS installment due for release during the financial year 2020-21 to such central government pool or head of accounts as may be decided by the government of India for prevention and control of COVID-19 in the country," minister said in a letter to chairman of the committee on MPLADS.

Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) is a scheme formulated by government of India on in 1993 that enables the members of parliaments to recommend developmental work in their constituencies with an emphasis on creating durable community assets based on locally felt needs.
