RJD chief Lalu Prasad slammed the government over the mismanagement that resulted in the loss of lives in a stampede at the New Delhi Railway Station. While responding to questions posed by media persons, he also said that the Kumbh is faltu (useless), a remark the ruling BJP latched onto to criticise the former Bihar chief minister.

"It's an unfortunate incident where people have lost lives. I pay my tributes to all the people who have lost their lives. This has happened due to the mismanagement of the railways. The railways minister should take responsibility for the incident," Prasad told media persons in Patna.

When asked about the crowd management at the Mahakumbh, Yadav said, "Kumbh ka koi matlab hai... sab faltu hai (Kumbh has no meaning. It is useless)."

Taking offence, Bihar minister and senior BJP leader Mangal Pandey said in a post on X, "Kumbh has no meaning, it is a useless Kumbh, this statement of Lalu Yadav is a symbol of his hatred for Sanatan and Hindus. Make a note that this time you (Lalu Prasad) will have to pay a heavy price for political appeasement by making fun of the faith of Hindus."
