To provide clean water in Ganga for Kumbh early next year in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed for closure of all tanneries in Kanpur between December 15, 2018 and March 15, 2019.

The chief minister, who convened a meeting of the tannery owners of Kanpur yesterday, issued the directives to ensure that the pilgrims taking a holy dip in the river during the Kumbh get clean water, a government spokesman said today.

The chief minister has also asked the administration to ensure that no waste was dumped in the river between Garhmukteshwar and Varanasi during this period.

Adityanath, who also reviewed the Namami Gange schemes, said clean water should be maintained in the river from December 2018 to March 2019, the official said.

The government was making massive efforts to make the Kumbh in Allahabad beginning next January a big success, the official said.
