Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Monday said the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has agreed to provide three complimentary tickets to each MLA for Indian Premier League (IPL) matches and two tickets for international events.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar said the issue was discussed with KSCA president and officials, as well as representatives of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s franchise partner, DNA Entertainment Network. “Last week, KSCA had agreed to provide two tickets as those for the first match had already been sold. We met again today and have now closed the matter,” he said.

He added that MLAs who are not interested in availing IPL tickets may inform the government in writing. “No one is being compelled,” he said.

On demands from some legislators for additional tickets, Shivakumar said not all requests could be accommodated. “We have taken a decision based on the situation. I also spoke to officials in Rajasthan, Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Gujarat, where about 50–60% of tickets are distributed to government officials and related groups. Compared to them, our level of intervention is far lower,” he said.

The Deputy CM also said discussions were held on expanding stadium capacity. “We have asked the GBA Commissioner to identify land for a new stadium and submit a proposal. Once submitted, it will be examined at the government level and necessary approvals will be granted. Increasing capacity by 20,000 seats would significantly benefit the public.”

On the demand for a separate gallery for MLAs and ministers during IPL matches, Shivakumar said the matter would be left to KSCA. “I will not excessively interfere in their affairs. This discussion was limited to ticket requests from MLAs.”

Responding to a query on land allocation for stadium development, he said the government has already allotted 25 acres to KSCA, apart from land in Tumakuru and Mysuru. “In Bengaluru, Cabinet approval has been granted for a stadium through the Karnataka Housing Board. The proposed facility at Suryanagar will cater to all sports and benefit the public at large,” he added.
