Krishna's resignation accepted, Jamir to take charge of Maharashtra

The resignation of Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna was accepted by President Pratibha Patil.

NEW DELHI: The resignation of Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna was on Thursday accepted by President Pratibha Patil.

The President has asked Goa Governor S C Jamir to take additional charge of the state till a regular arrangement is made, a Rashtrapati Bhavan communique said.

A former Chief Minister, Krishna quit yesterday to take part in active politics ahead of assembly polls in Karnataka.

Krishna had met the President and conveyed his decision to resign after just over three years in the gubernatorial post in Mumbai.

Krishna was Chief Minister during the last elections in 2004 when the party was nudged to the second position after BJP in a hung House.
