CHANDIGARH: Torrential rains failed to dampen spirits of devotees who thronged temples to celebrate the Krishna Janmashtami, the birth anniversary of Lord Krishna, today in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.

Special religious discourses, hymns, kathas and community kitchens were held in decorated temples.

Tableaux, depicting life and message of Lord Krishna, marked the celebrations, sources said, adding, women kept fast on the occasion and they were joined by men as well at several places in the twin states.

'Baal-Gopal'(child Krishna) was placed in 'jhulas'(swings) which were ceremonially swayed by devotees.

A large gathering of followers of Jai Krishani Panth converged at different temples across the region.

Meanwhile, a thick blanket of security was in place in temples of the region.
