KPP to reignite its fierce separate statehood movement in Northern West Bengal region
SILIGURI: Right when West Bengal CM Miss Mamata Banerjee has started considering the separate Gorkhaland statehood movement in northern part of the state as cool after her tactical political steps, one more fierce separate statehood movement has taken rebirth with high potential to become a major worry for her. The developments following death of six persons in a bomb blast by suspected Kamtapuri Militants has reignited the old movement.

“No one can suppress any democratic movement in India. Arrest of our members after tagging them up with Kamtapur Liberation Organization( KLO), being considered as responsible behind the bomb blast in Jalpaiguri on 26th Dec and subsequent death of six persons in that, is an example of that atrocity. We strongly oppose that,” said Mr Atul Roy, President of Kamtapur Peoples Party( KPP) today.

“This is a conspiracy against KPP members and Rajbangshi community people by North Bengal Development Minister Mr Gautam Deb. We want his immediate arrest,” demanded Mr Roy. “In addition, we are launching a series of movement steps,” he added.

Under desperation to prove no link between KPP and KLO, Mr Roy said, “We are demanding KLO to be declared banned if found to be responsible for death of innocent people. In any activity of state against KLO, we will remain in state’s side.”

Back in 2001, the KPP had sent massive and long shockwaves across North Bengal following its demand for a separate Kamtapur state comprising the three North Bengal districts. At the same time, KLO, a militant organization with same demand had shaken hands with ULFA from NE region and carried on series of actions. Though always denied by the organizations, Intelligence had always kept KPP and KLO tagged together.

Incidentally, KPP President Mr Roy played an active role in 2002 in the formation of a Council for The Smaller States under Jharkhand Mukti Morcha supremo Mr Shibu Soren's leadership.

But both KPP and KLO had to go low key following synergy of active political, police and massive military action at its hide ups in Bhutan in 2003.

Announcing it reemergence, Mr Atul Roy, president of KPP said today, “Despite being much older demand, Kamtapur movement could never have attention of West Bengal state Government though the CM preferred rewarding Gorkhaland territorial Administration to activists of seven years old Goakhaland movement. This is the time for Bengal to witness our aggressive movement once again,” he said.
