Political tensions flared in Kovur for a second straight day after former YSRCP legislator Nallapareddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy made personal and derogatory remarks against TDP MLA Vemireddy Prashanti Reddy at a party workers' meeting.

As per TOI, addressing the gathering at a Kalyana Mandapam in Kovur on Monday, Prasanna Kumar Reddy said, “I know Prashanti Reddy’s entire life history. Where was she ten years ago? I wonder why Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy married her. If he would have asked me, I would have arranged a suitable girl to get married to him. Vemireddy has thousands of crores of rupees wealth and he should be cautious as I have credible information that already two meetings have been held with an agenda to eliminate him.”

The comments triggered an immediate and furious response from the TDP camp. Supporters of MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and MLA Prashanti Reddy stormed the former MLA’s residence on Monday night and vandalised the property.

The backlash continued into Tuesday, with thousands of women from across the Nellore district staging a protest in Kovur, demanding an unconditional public apology from Prasanna Kumar Reddy. Demonstrators vowed not to allow him to enter the town unless he apologised for his remarks.

A formal police complaint was filed at the Kovur police station, while Prashanti Reddy also met with Nellore Additional SP Ch Sowjanya and submitted a separate complaint.

Speaking to the press, Prashanti Reddy alleged a personal vendetta behind the remarks. “He has developed a grudge against me and made derogatory remarks on me because I have been exposing his involvement in various scams during his prolonged political career,” she said.

The incident drew swift condemnation from state leaders. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said the remarks were “unpardonable” and accused Prasanna Kumar Reddy of crossing the line. State HRD Minister Nara Lokesh also criticised the ex-MLA, along with other leaders across party lines.

With tensions running high in Kovur, police have deployed additional forces in the area to maintain order.
