A political slugfest has erupted over the alleged gangrape of a law student inside a law college in Kolkata. The three persons arrested were associated with Trinamool Congress Chhatra Parishad, triggering angry reaction from the opposition.

There were major protests by Left-backed SFI and the DYFI. The protestors raised slogans and were engaged in a scuffle with the police in front of Kasba Police Station. Several Left protestors were injured.

Meanwhile, BJP state president Sukanta Majumdar claimed that the main accused was an active student leader of Trinamool Congress and had associations with top ruling party leaders. BJP Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari demanded the resignation of the chief minister on the rape case.
