Koirala asks Prachanda to form new government
Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala today formally called upon Maoist chairman Prachanda to take initiation, as the head of the largest party in the Constituent Assembly (CA), to form a new government.
Koirala made this call during a meeting of three main parties - CPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN (UML) - at his residence.
"The Prime Minister who also acts as head of the state has asked Prachanda to take initiation for a new government in accordance with the constitution," peace minister and NC vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel told reporters.
According to him, the meeting dwelled on issues like formation of the government, amendment in the Interim Constitution, nomination of 26 CA members and appointment of a 'ceremonial president', but no decision was taken.
Another round of tripartite meeting will take place on Sunday to discuss these issues.
In that meeting, Maoist chairman Prachanda will provide an outline on how consensus for a unity government, and other issues could be built, Poudel informed, the Nepalnews.com reported.
