RR Nagar's residents do not expect the moon from their representative.
BENGALURU: Rajarajeshwarinagar constituency is among the four largest assembly segments in Bengaluru, with over 4.54 lakh voters. The constituency, which is residential and commercial suburb, also has a number of educational institutions.
The RR Nagar constituency comprises of nine wards . It was carved out of the erstwhile Uttarahalli assembly constituency.
RR Nagar's residents do not expect the moon from their representative. They want basic facilities such as door-to-door garbage collection. “Waste collection from houses is not regular. This is why people end up throwing waste in empty sites. Even burning of garbage is high,”, Niveditha Sunkad, a resident of BEML layout said.
Sunkad said residents have been taking up cleaning of the area's lake as government agencies are not maintaining the water body. “We water the plans and hold cleanliness drive every weekend,” she said.
When Citizens for Bengaluru, an association of activists conducted a meeting to arrive at a citizen’s manifesto for the constituency, the highest number of inputs from RR Nagar related to waste collection and development of lakes.

M Nanjundaswamy, a JD(S) functionary, wanted the government to stop dumping waste at Laggere, an already run-down ward of RR Nagar. “In the last four years, not less than 40,000 loads of debris and waste has been dumped here. It is being termed as Laggere Rakshasa Halla (roughly translates to satan’s pond). This has led to groundwater contamination and health hazards,” he pointed out.
GS Malini, a resident, pointed out to the traffic issues. The entrance arch to RR Nagar invariably sees traffic piling up for more than a kilometre, she pointed out.
RR Nagar is represented by Congress' N Munirathna. The constituency itself has nine wards, five represented by the Congeress, three by the BJP and one by the JD (S). Last year, the BJP councillors, protesting Muniratna's style of functioning, had threatened to commit suicide in the City Council by waving bottles filled with phenyl.
