Kidney racket: ASI remanded to 14 days' judicial custody

A Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector, who alongwith six other colleagues allegedly extorted over Rs 19 lakh from an aide of kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar, was today remanded to 14 days' judicial custody by a court here.

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police Assistant Sub-Inspector, who alongwith six other colleagues allegedly extorted over Rs 19 lakh from an aide of kidney racket kingpin Amit Kumar, was today remanded to 14 days' judicial custody by a court here. Accused Ravinder Kumar Singh, arrested on February 14, was produced before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate A K Kuhar after the expiry of his two-day police custody. The court sent him to judicial custody till March 12.

The investigating officer had earlier obtained a two-day police remand of Singh twice from the court, alleging that the accused had been changing his statement on where the extorted money is. Dr Upender, an aide of the racket kingpin Dr Amit, had allegedly made a disclosure statement that he paid money to policemen. He had also allegedly identified the accused in a test identification parade on February 18 at Tihar jail here.

Seven policemen including Singh had allegedly extorted Rs 19.85 lakh from Dr Upendra, an accused in the Gurgaon kidney racket, for letting him and his driver to go scot free after being picked up in January. Singh was arrested on February 14 while the other six accused -- head constables Devender Singh and Vijay Bahadur and constables Naresh Kumar, Kaleem Beg, Surender Rathi and Rakesh Kumar -- who were posted at Special Staff in Central District are still absconding.

The policemen have been booked by the Economic Offence Wing of the Delhi Police under various sections of the IPC including 384 (extortion), 385 (putting persons in fear for extorting money), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 120B (criminal conspiracy).
