Khasi cry for language inclusion gets louder
Demand for inclusion of Khasi language in the Eight Scheduled to the Constitution seems to be getting louder. A massive rally has been planned organised on September 22 in Shillong to press for the demand.

Khasis are demanding for inclusion of their language since 1979. “There have been several delegations, intellectual articulations and public motivations for the cause of the Khasi language based on the genuine credibility and excellence in literary growth, which is felt deserving for such legitimate demand,” General Secretary of Khasi Authors Society, RP Kharshiing, said in a statement.

“In the course of our struggle, we have achieved the Associate Official Language status through State legislation in 2005. Khasi language has been a subject for higher studies at the Calcutta University and Gauhati University since the pre and post-independence period and at the North Eastern Hill University up to Ph D level” Kharshiing said.
