Khadi board plans to open common facility centres in J-K

The Khadi and Village Industries Board is planning to open Common Facility Centres at Bandipora and Basholi in Jammu and Kashmir to assist pashmina shawl weaving units.

SRINAGAR: The Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) is planning to open Common Facility Centres (CFC) at Bandipora and Basholi in Jammu and Kashmir to assist pashmina shawl weaving units.
"The two centres would cost about Rs 25 lakh, of which the government would contribute 75 per cent while the implementing agencies will contribute the remaining amount," Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of KVIB R C Sharma said today.
Pashmina shawls are popular not only in India but also abroad, he said, adding nearly 1,200 weavers and 3,800 spinners will be availing facilities in the proposed centres.
Previously for one ordinary shawl at Basholi, the artisan earned Rs 300 whereas now they will get approximately Rs 450 and at Bandipora from Rs 500 to Rs 1200 depending upon yarn with CFC, he added.
People working in product development will benefit upto 50 to 60 per cent, he said.
