Kestopur Canal in Kolkata gets a face lift

KOLKATA: Kestopur Canal in the northern part of the city has come a long way from being line by trash packed stretch of streets. Thanks to the beautification efforts by the West Bengal state government.The new beautified stretch along the western bank of the Kestopur Canal between Ultadanga and Kestopur would be getting a Rs 30 crore facelift complete with a children’s park, mini hillocks, fountains, a small nursery and a well paved walkway that would be the walking and jogging track.

While the project begun by fresh soil replacing the garbage dumped stretch, the area also got a fair share of greens. To start with a Mexican grass carpet was laid alongside planting of palm trees and other ornamental plants would adorn the entire area.

The stretch is being divided into two children’s park and would also have multi coloured street lights throughout the area. However it is not just the streets that would get the lighting, the entire canal would be illuminated with similar coloured lights arrangements.
