Kerala recorded 75.12% polling

Kozhikode district had the highest turn out of 81.3% and Pathanamthitta recorded the lowest polling at 68.2 %.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has recorded 75.12 per cent voter turn out in the elections for the 140 member state Assembly.

According to the final figures of the Election Commission, Kozhikode district in north Kerala had the highest voter turn out of 81.3 per cent and Pathanamthitta in the south recorded the lowest polling percentage of 68.2 in the poll held yesterday.

Compared to other parts of the state, polling percentage in the capital district Thiruvananthapuram stood at a lower 68.3 per cent.

The polling percentage of other districts are: Kasargode (76.3), Kannur (80.7), Wayanad (73.8), Malappuram (74.6), Palakkad (75.6), Thrissur (74.9), Ernakulam (77.6), Idukki (71.6), Kottayam (73.8), Alappuzha (79.1) and Kollam (72.8)

The battle to gain power in the state was keenly fought between ruling LDF and Congress-led UDF with BJP making the contest three-cornered in at least two seats.

In all, 971 candidates were in the fray, including independents.
