Kerala House to reintroduce carabeef roast
NEW DELHI/KOCHI: After the so-called Hindu Sena led the Delhi Police up the garden path by cooking up a beef row in the trademark carabeef roast of Delhi’s Kerala House canteen, a full-fledge political row played out across news channels on Tuesday, culminating with the Kerala House declaring its canteen shall resume serving the dish prepared from buffalo meat from Wednesday.

This after Kerala CM Oommen Chandy shot off a protest letter to PM Narendra Modi against the ‘unjustifiable raid’ and CPM leaders staged a dharna against the ‘attack’ and defended the Malayelees “right to eat what they want”.

Even the state BJP leadership, while lamenting ‘attempts to malign’ the Modi regime, took care not to get entangled with Hindu Sena’s anti-beef over-drive. The fact that the ‘misguided beef row’ coincided with civic elections in Kerala, saw all parties rise to defend the Malayalee eating habits.

While the menu listed ‘beef fry’ (written in Malayalam, unlike names of other items in English), the canteen staff and Kerala House authorities insisted it was “a common reference to carabeef roast.”
