Kerala govt to hold talks with striking lorry owners

Kerala government has authorised four ministers to hold talks with the lorry owners who were continuing with their strike that entered the sixth day.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala government has authorised four ministers to hold talks with the lorry owners who were continuing with their strike that entered the sixth day today, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said.

Talking to reporters after a cabinet meeting, he said ministers of Transport, Industries, Labour and Food and Civil Supplies would hold discussions with the owners to end the strike.

"The government had already met most of the demands put forth by the owners and there was no reason why they should continue their strike," he said.

The owners' main protest is against the government's decision to increase their share of contribution to the Workers' Welfare Fund.
