Kerala gears up to tackle Covid-19

Covid-19 sample collection and treatment facilities are available in 22 hospitals in the state which includes 14 district hospitals in each district and eight medical colleges.
The state government in Kerala has been proactive in tackling Covid-19 by making use of its health facilities. The state currently has 24 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

This is after discharging three patients who have been cured of the disease after testing positive for the virus. In all 18011 persons have been quarantined in the state of which 17743 are at home and the rest in the hospitals.

According to State nodal officer for health, Dr Amar Fettle, there are four testing laboratories for the virus in the state. They are: National institute of Virology, Alappuzha, Government Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, Government Medical College, Kozhikode and Government Medical College, Thrissur


Covid-19 sample collection and treatment facilities are available in 22 hospitals in the state which includes 14 district hospitals in each district and eight medical colleges. All the medical colleges have isolation wards and ICU facilities while the district hospitals have just the isolation wards. Total number of beds available in these hospitals is around 28,000, of which those devoted to Covid-19 victims will come to 3600.

Besides, Dr Amar said over 200 taluk hospitals in the state will be provided facilities for sample collection if the need arises
