Kerala decides to implement Sachar Committee report

The CPI(M)-led LDF Government in Kerala today decided to implement the Sachar Committee report on backwardness of Muslim community, including the proposal to form a Minority Welfare Department.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI(M)-led LDF Government in Kerala today decided to implement the Sachar Committee report on backwardness of Muslim community, including the proposal to form a Minority Welfare Department.

The decision was taken by the state cabinet which gave its approval to the proposals of the high power committee headed by Local Administration Minister Paloli Muhammadkutty, set up to study the state-level implementation of the Sachar Committee report.

Announcing this at a press meet, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said other proposals included institution of special educational scholarships for the Muslim students.
The minority-welfare schemes would be carried out on the lines of implementation of the schemes for the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribes.

The Paloli Committee was set up to draw up proposals based on the Sachar Committee report taking the socio-cultural specifics of the state. The panel had as its members nominees from various political parties, Muslim outfits and religious scholars.
